ACY (Air Covering Yarn)

ACY air covering yarn refers to DTY yarn and spandex being fed in parallel into a specially designed air-jet core. Compressed air at a preset constant pressure is intermittently released through the jet, and the air dynamics wrap the filaments of nylon DTY twisting the spandex to form uniform network adhesion points; this process is called two-step spinning. Air covering yarns can also be processed in one step on an integrated machine using POY. This is called one-step spinning. One-step spinning is suitable for large-scale production and offers a price advantage. ACY yarns can be used in various textile products and are a primary category for the deep processing elastic materials. Fabrics made from these yarns exhibit elasticity, fluffiness, softness, and easy dyeability.

Product Knowledge of Air Covering Yarn and Conventional Covering Yarn

I. Product Definitions

Air Covering Yarn

● During production, high-speed airflow is utilized to encapsulate two or more types of fibers or yarns together.
● Structure: The core yarn is loosely wrapped, with gaps existing between the fibers. Intermittent bonding points adhere spandex and nylon; the Air Covering yarn partially exposes the spandex, resulting in a looser structure.

Conventional Covering Yarn

● Mechanical devices (such as spindles and rollers) are employed to tightly wind outer fibers around the core yarn, forming a uniform and dense covering layer.
● Structure: The core yarn is tightly wrapped, with fibers arranged regularly.

II. Comparison of Processes and Properties

Comparison Dimension

Air Covering Yarn

Conventional Covering Yarn

Production Process

Relies on airflow, no complex machinery

Relies on mechanical winding devices, more precise control

Covering Density

Loose covering, core yarn and outer fibers are less tightly combined

Tight covering, outer fibers evenly adhere to the core yarn

Elasticity and Loftiness

High elasticity, soft and fluffy (suitable for elastic products)

Lower elasticity, compact structure (suitable for shaping needs)

Strength and Wear Resistance

Lower strength, prone to pilling

High strength, great wear resistance

Cost

Lower equipment investment, less energy consumption

Higher equipment investment, greater energy consumption

Product Advantages

Air Covering Yarn

Knitted, woven, athletic wear, underwear (seamless underwear), shapewear, socks, medical bandages, and other textiles requiring high elasticity, softness, and comfort.

Good air permeability, fitness body, suitable for dynamic stretching.

Conventional Covering Yarn

Knitted, woven, seamless underwear, socks, outdoor sportswear, workwear fabrics, industrial fabrics, and other textiles requiring high strength, abrasion resistance, and washability.

Smooth surface, anti-pilling, suitable for products requiring shaping and durability.

IV. How to Choose Yarn?

Choose Air Covering Yarn: When elasticity and softness are prioritized (such as seamless underwear, yoga pants, elastic socks). You can choose our 2030, 2050 products , or customization is available.

Choose Conventional Covering Yarn:  When anti-pilling and abrasion resistance are prioritized (such as seamless underwear, outdoor sportswear, high-end fabrics). You can choose our 3030, 4030 products, or customization is available.

Industry knowledge

Air Covering Yarns

Composite yarns wrapping nylon/polyester around spandex via air jets, merging elasticity with outer fiber strength. Faster production than mechanical twisting, yielding smooth, lightweight, soft yarns. Used in sportswear, underwear, hosiery for consistent stretch, fit, and fabric recovery. Adjustable via core/covering denier; good dye uptake for colored fabrics.

Covering Yarns Production

Core (spandex/rubber) + outer covering (polyester/nylon/cotton). Methods: mechanical (spindle-wrapping for single/double cover) vs. air covering (air-entangled for softness, speed). Offer controlled elasticity, protect cores from stress, used in stretch fabrics for socks, activewear, medical textiles. Customizable via material choice for stretch, texture, durability.
